With the advent of social media…Facebook, Instagram, etc., the meaning of friendship in the 21st century has morphed into something quite different than it has been in the past.   People today boast of having 200,000 “friends,” or a million  “hits.”  John’s Gospel uniquely invites us into the world of Jesus’ friendships through stories of encounters with a remarkable group of carefully drawn characters whom we are invited to get to know. At the end of John’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us very specifically what it means to “friend somebody.”

Join Helen Goodkin and Father John as we peer into the meaning of friendship in John’s Gospel through a careful reading of the Gospel texts.  The final session will focus the on statement unique to John, “I have called you friends,” spoken at his final meal before the Crucifixion, a meal attended not just by the Apostles, but a larger group of friends that may have included women!
