Join us for a discussion of Norman Wirzba's book This Sacred Life: Humanity’s Place in a Wounded World.
In preparation for Sunday, March 6, we are reading the Preface and Chapter 1.
Questions for discussion for reflection and discussion:
1. The book’s subtitle is, “Humanity’s Place in a Wounded World.” In what ways does the author see the world as “wounded,” and in what ways are these wounds connected to the Anthropocene? (xiv-xvii of the Preface, 14-18 of Chapter 1)
2. The author offers his first definition of our “creaturely condition” on pp. 19-20. What are the main features of this condition? How does the creaturely condition offer a vision of “freedom” that differs from how freedom is usually understood? (19-24)
3. Why, in the author’s view, is the language of the specific and local usually preferable to the language of the abstract and general? (29-33)
