T.S. Eliot's "Four Quartets"

  • The Church of the Holy Trinity 316 East 88th Street New York, NY, 10128 United States (map)

Parishioner Chris Knight, with minor assistance from the Rector, will lead an exploration of Eliot’s beautiful (yet, sometimes confusing) work. Copies of “Four Quartets” will be available at church and can also be purchased online. Whether you are new to the poetry of Eliot or have years of knowledge, the more we spend time with his poetry, the more we learn something new. As Eliot writes

What we call the beginning is often the end
And to make and end is to make a beginning.
The end is where we start from. (“Little Gidding,” from Four Quartets)

Chris Knight is a retired professor of English Literature and Writing at the City University of New York and has published several books and numerous articles.

Father Beddingfield is fascinated by the piety and complexity of Eliot and continues to try to understand Eliot’s poetry.

Join us as we learn and explore together.
